Our new reading series, Treasures, has a link in Resources below with games and activities that will help with each week's skills and strategies.
Read for 20 minutes every night with your child, and ask these questions:
I. Predict
- What will happen next?
II. Visualize
- What do I picture in my mind that's happening in the story?
III. Ask Questions
- Who?
- What?
- When?
- Where?
- Why?
IV. Summarize
- In my own words, what is this story about?
V. Clarify
- ...how to say a word - I look for chunks.
-...what a word means - I look at the words around it.
- ...an idea - I reread the sentence.
