Announcements
As the end of your child's sixth grade year comes to a close, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support and encouragement. The kids have learned so much. I am so proud of them, but more important, they are so proud of themselves. We are going to try an unprecedented event for my classroom. We would like to invite you, the parents, to come to our classroom next Monday, May 21st to witness first hand our method and the result. If you are available during the school day between 8:33-11:00 or 12:40-2:20, we would love to ""show off"" for you. No RSVP is necessary. Just come and cheer us on as we demonstrate what a lot of hard work can do.

5 minute study warm-up

The 5 minute study warm-up is taken from a research based study technique from Project CRISS. Research has found that students remember information that is presented or studied in small
increments over a longer period of time rather than "cramming" information into the short term
memory. 5 minutes studying daily allows the information go to the long term memory

How does it work?
As students enter the room they are asked to review the material (countries) learned the previous
day.  We then, as a class, review the previous information and add three new facts. Individual
students volunteer to come to the board and review all the information independently. The class
then resumes with the 6th grade curriculum.

Below are a few links that your child might find helpful to review their 5 minute study map

About Miss Hallman
It's hard to believe this is Century's 14th year educating Orland's children. How time flies, but I don't need to tell any of you parents about that. Each summer seems to go faster than the one before. My name is Carrie Hallman, and I will be your child's social studies teacher for the 2011-2012 school year. This is my 22th year teaching, and I love my job. I taught at Orland Junior High for 8 years before joining the staff that opened Century. I have a reading endorsement on my teaching certificate which I believe helps in teaching social studies.
