Accelerated Reader
Every student is expected to read 3 Accelerated Reader books per quarter. Books should be at the students' independent reading levels. Students must earn an 80% or above for accuracy in order to pass a test. At the end of each quarter, an assigned book report will be due (format will be provided at the beginning of each quarter). Students should choose one of the 3 books which were read that quarter to use for this book report. (NOTE: Of course, students are encouraged to challenge themselves and take more than 3 AR tests per quarter! I highly recommend it!) Students may also print out their AR progress at any time so you may monitor your child's progress from home as well.

Independent Reading Log
Independent reading completed at home will be recorded on your child's weekly reading log which is due every Monday. Students are required to read for 20 minutes for at least 4 nights per week. Please be sure to sign this log to verify reading time. A short written response at the bottom of the log must be completed by your child as well. This reading may consist of any Accelerated Reader book your child is reading. It may also be any type of recreational reading as well (newspapers, magazines, comic books, etc.) The sole purpose of this activity is to encourage reading and generate thoughtful written responses to what has been read.

Take Home Tuesday Folders
Take Home Tuesday Folders will be sent home every Tuesday afternoon. This will be a collection of work we have completed for the past week. Please review these papers with your child, empty the folder, and sign and date the inside sheet. Note: if any papers have a "Correct and Return" sticker on them, please have your child fix any errors and return it as soon as possible.

Wake Up Brain!
A new Wake Up Brain challenge will be posted every Monday. Students are welcome (but not required) to face the challenge! Answers must be placed in the appropriate envelope next to this bulletin board by Friday in order to participate. Homework must be turned in on time for the week in order to play.

What Can I Read???
Looking for a good book? Look no further! Click on the heading above for a listing of great books recommended by yours truly!

Get 50! Postcard Project
The challenge is to receive postcards from all 50 states! Postcards must be mailed to us at school or to your home. This is a terrific way to get friends, family members and even coworkers involved in some fun!!! Students can even go online to any search engine (such as www.dogpile.com) and type in (state name) bureau of tourism and request a FREE brochure (I will count this as valid correspondence). Duplicate correspondence is welcome! We will be comparing data to see which states have the most and least mail at the end of the year!

Snacks
Students may bring a healthy snack each day. Please click on the Snacks link directly above to view the district's approved snack list.
