Linda Bragiel

Mrs. Bragiel

Welcome to my web page!

My name is Mrs. Bragiel and this will be my seventeenth year working for the Orland Park School District.  I began as a technology paraprofessional at Doctor School in 1993.  Two years later, I began teaching 8th grade Science at Jerling Junior High.  Then, in September of 1996, I started teaching  6th grade Science, which I have been doing for thirteen years.    I have also taught 6th grade Language Arts,  while teaching Science.

I have three children:  Luke who is 9 and starting 4th grade. Clayton who is 6 and starting first grade and Leah is 5 and beginning kindergarten.

If you need to contact me with any questions or concerns, you may call me at 708-226-8794 or e-mail me at lbragiel@orland135.org.

6th Grade Science

Please know that there is not a lot of homework issued in Science regularly.  I do encourage the students to study the current material for a few minutes each night.  This will help them prepare for upcoming tests.  The students will be given a three to four day notice prior to any quiz or test.  Please check their assignment notebooks for any upcoming tests.

Late assignments will be accepted only up to three days after the due date.  For each day that an assignment is late, one letter grade will be deducted.  When students are absent, they are given two days for every day absent to make-up missed work.

Beginning in October, the students will be responsible for completing Daily Review Questions (DRQ).  Students need to keep a running log each day by writing the date, the question and the answer.  We do review the answer to each question daily.  At the end of each month, the DRQ will be collected and worth three points for each day.

We will begin the year with our Introduction To Science Unit.  During the months of September and October we will discuss what it is to be a scientist and the tools and equipment they use to conduct experiments.  We will memorize the steps of the Scientific Method and practice those steps by conducting our own activities.

We will also study the three branches of science and explore the metric system, learning how to convert from one unit to the next.  We will practice using a meter stick to measure length, graduated cylinders to measure volume and a triple beam balance to calculate the mass of objects.
