About the Media Center
The Library Media Center serves as the information hub of the school. Its purpose is to provide opportunities for students to become critical seekers of information, users of media in all formats, and independent, lifelong learners. The Library Media Program has three components: Literature Appreciation, Library Skills, and Resource Based Learning.

Reading Counts

Reading Counts is a reading motivation program that combines reading books for pleasure and using a computer to quiz students on the books read. As students pass the quizzes, they accumulate points toward a goal they have chosen. Awards are given periodically as students make significant progress toward their goal.

Each student has an equal chance to receive awards during the year because the goals are individualized. The program assigns point values to books according to the level of difficulty. The students choose their goal based on their own reading ability and subject to their teachers' approval.  The program maintains all student records of points accumulated as well as the goals reached.

With Reading Counts, there
are on-going opportunities for students to receive awards. However, the greatest motivation and reward is how the students feel about their obvious success with reading. This program was originally developed by a teacher and recently incorporated into the Scholastic company's educational programs.

There are more than 3,500 books included in the program. Please see Mrs. Lane for more details.
