Welcome to Ms. Marrano's Class!

There are so many new and exciting things that happen in first grade and it will be an amazing adventure. This year your students will grow so much, you won't believe your eyes!

Our class now has a blog that I will update weekly.  You may find that here: marrano1stgrade.blogspot.com/

Weekly Homework:
Monday
-
-Spelling lists: I will be sending these home every Monday.  Please practice these words with your child every night. They will be tested on Friday.
-High-Frequency Word Flashcards: These need to be practiced each night as well. They will be tested at the end of every 5 weeks.
-Three times each:  I send this page home on Mondays and they are due by Friday.

Thursday-
-Reading Sheets: These are sent home to be signed to show that you read the hardcover reading book with your child. Please return these on Friday.

Monthly Homework:
-Oh the Places We'll Go Reading Calendar: These are due on the 1st of every month.
-Book Report: Your child will have a monthly book report to complete starting in November.

Homework Policy:
-Please check your child's take home folder each night. All important information from the office or myself will be placed in there every night as well as any homework. If your child does not complete his/her work in the time alloted in class, they will be asked to take it home for homework. If your child does have homework, please make sure it is completed and returned the next day.
-If the students have all of their homework turned in on Friday, they will get to play our class game called "Homeworkopoly."  "Homeworkopoly" is based off of the popular game, Monopoly.  They get to roll the dice every week and move their piece to get classroom rewards.  If the homework is not all in on Friday, they will not be able to roll.

Discipline and Rewards Policy:
-I use a stoplight in the classroom. Each day, the students begin on green. If given two warnings, the student will be asked to move their stick to yellow, and after two more warnings, the student will be asked to move their stick to red. Throughout the day, each student gets the chance to move their stick back up to green with good behavior.  If the student ends the day on yellow, they will miss 5 minutes of recess the following day. If the student ends the day on red, they will miss 10 minutes of recess the following day.  If the behavior continues to be an issue, I will make a phonecall home.

Classroom Expectations:
-I am working with your children to create respectful and responsible students.  Classroom expectations and behavior can be found on the handout provided at open house.

My expecations are that each student will:
-raise his or her hand before speaking in class.
-bring their homework back completed and on the correct day.
-respect the space of others.
-try their best in everything that they do.
-participate in class.

If you have any questions you can contact me using the above information. I hope you and your child enjoy their time in first grade!

Thank you!
