    Daily Announcements

    Wednesday, September 15, 2021

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15 by celebrating the istories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Central and South America.  Today, the day of September 15, is significant because it is the anniversary of independance for Latin American countries Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua.  In addition, Mexico and Chile celebrate their independence days on Spetember 16 and September 18, respectively.  Also, Columbus Day or Dia de la Raza, which is October 12, falls within this 30 day period.

Jerling Jayhawks, please join me in congratulating the newly elected NJHS President for the 2021-2022 school year, 8th grade student Emmitt S!  His cabinet members will be 8th grade student Daniel S. as Vice-President, 7th grade student Sam P. as treasurer and 7th grade student Lyla S. as secretary.  We are looking forward to strong leadership from all of the new NJHS officers!

The boys softball team played a fine game yesterday, but their 13 hits were not quite enough to take down Conrady in a real nailbiter.  Highlights of the game were noteworthy heroic outfield catches by Ayden, Conal, and Sean, who also had a 3 for 4 day at the plate. You can catch the team in action again tomorrow at home as they take on Oak Lawn-Hometown Middle School  Game time is 4:30pm. Today's practice ends at 5:00pm.

Put it on the board. . .YES!  The Lady Jayhawks defeated Conrady last night 16 to 1 increasing their win streak to 4 games!  Zoe, Lexi and Brianna all hit home runs, Liv had a triple and 5 RBI's, Olivia had 4 runs scored, ZOe scored twice and Molly also scored twice and Molly also socred a run.  The Jayhawks will put their winning streak on the line when they travel to Oak Lawn on Thursday.

Art Club will have their 1st meeting this Thursday after school in the Commons until 4:30pm.  Please see Mr. Murphy with any questions.
