April 2021
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Orland School District 135 takes great care in working with teachers and administrators while analyzing data to make appropriate instructional decisions for each student. To support and improve this decision making, all of the kindergarten, first and second grade students in the district will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAt) Screener. This assessment will take approximately 30 minutes. Testing will take place during the weeks of April 26th through May 7th. Individual schools and classroom teachers will notify parents of the exact date of testing for your child. Principals will contact families of remote students to offer times for in-person testing.
The CogAT provides a snapshot of your child’s abilities in the areas of verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal functioning. Along with achievement data as well as other classroom data, the CogAt test scores will be used to support instructional decisions and programming.
Results of this assessment will be sent home with each child prior to the end of the school year. Please contact our department of your child’s principal if you have any questions.
Sincerely,
The Department of Teaching and Learning
