1976-Present
1976: Liberty School, 8801 W. 151st St., and Prairie School, 14200 S. 82nd Ave., open.
1977: High Point and Prairie Schools are expanded.
1981: Jerling Jr. High, named for retiring Supt. Norbert Jerling, opens at 8851 W. 151st St. Dr. Thomas Pauley is named superintendent.
1982: District 135 voters defeat a November referendum seeking funds to cope with growing student enrollment.
1983: District 135 places another funding referendum on the February ballot; voters again say “no.” The school board face the task of cutting about $1.2 million from the district budget.
1987: Orland School District 135 voters approve the sale of construction bonds and an increase in the Education Fund tax rate, paving the way for new buildings to accommodate the district’s fast-growing student population, which passed the 3,000 mark a few years earlier.
1989: The Administration Center at 94th Avenue and 151st Street opens to house the administrative staffs of Orland School District 135, Consolidated High School District 230, and Orland Township. Previously, District 135 and Orland Township staff had been working in rented quarters or vacant schoolrooms scattered around the village. District 135’s student enrollment reaches 3,570.
1991: Centennial School opens at 14101 Creek Crossing Dr..
1994: After presiding over more than a decade of unprecedented student enrollment growth, Dr. Pauley retires. Dr. Charles Palaces, a teacher and principal in District 135 since 1969, is named superintendent.
1995: School District 135’s enrollment tops 5,500. In April, District 135 voters pass a building bond referendum by a margin of 2-1.
1996: Century Jr. High opens at 10801 W. 159th St.
1998: Meadow Ridge School opens at 10959 W. 159th St. Dr. Palaces resigns, and Dr. Peter Yuska is named superintendent.
2004: Dr. Yuska retires and Dr. Linda Anast-May is named superintendent.
2006: Dr. Anast-May resigns and Dennis Soustek is named superintendent.
2010: Supt. Soustek retires and Dr. Paul Howell is named superintendent.
2012: Dr. Howell resigns in January; Dr. Soustek returns to serve through June. In July, Dr. Carol Kunst is appointed to serve as interim superintendent through June 2013.
2013: In July, Dr. Janet Stutz becomes District 135 Superintendent.
2014: In May, the Village of Orland Park recognizes Orland Park School as an historic site and dedicates a bronze marker to memorialize the school’s history.
