Strategic Plan Goals

The Board of Education and District 135 staff is committed to continuous improvement and achieving excellence for all students. Our strategic plan outlines our key goals for the coming years. These goals focus on academic achievement, social-emotional learning, fiscal responsibility, staff engagment, and open and clear communication.

The Board of Education will receive regular updates on progress towards these goals, and this website will be updated quarterly to reflect that information. To learn more about the specific goals for each category, please click on the tabs below.

2024-2025 Goals

Finance & Facilities

Goal 1: Develop a plan to update and modernize facilities.
- The Buildings and Grounds department installed new trial furniture in an art room, science room and general education classroom. The trial furniture includes high top tables, higher chairs, and alternate seating options. (update provided during the January 2024 Board meeting)

Goal 2: Implement standardized safety procedures for all facilities
- The Buildings & Ground department is working on installing new classroom maps in each room in the 10 buildings as well as Stop the Bleed Kits in every classroom. (update provided during the January 2024 Board meeting)

Human Resources

Goal 1: Foster an environment of mutual respect and safety.
- Wellness visits were completed during the fall by Chiro One and there is an upcoming Financial Wellness series that will take place during the winter and spring of 2025. (update provided during the January 2024 Board meeting)
- Human Resources is working on a staff engagement survey. (update provided during the January 2024 Board meeting)
Goal 2: Focus recruitment on a blend of educational backgrounds, experience, and qualifications relevant to student needs.
- The District will be attending a wide variety of job fairs in the winter and spring of 2025.

Curriculum/Instruction/Assessment

Goal 1- Challenge all students with rigor and support for individual growth.
- Monthly curriculum collaboration with junior high teachers during team time focused on standard & assessment alignment and consistency.
- Added zero hour math support class
- Writing in math professional development in grades 3-5
Provide evidenced-based literacy instruction that supports all learners across the curriculum.
- Literacy program pilot K-8
- Lexia training for 3rd grade
- Shifting the Balance book study K-5

Student & Family Experience

Provide and support equitable opportunities for student and family engagement district-wide.

Communication/Public Relations

Inform stakeholders through various methods of communication.
- Triannual Newsletter to all District residents

- Pushing out information through various platforms

  - Patch articles have increased since the beginning of the 2024-2025 school year
Enhance the school community by connecting families of children with similar interests and needs.
- Special Education Department hosting Parent Sessions at end of January
- BPAC (Bilingual Parent Advisory Committee) hosted community event for ELL families connecting them with local businesses and resources
