Art Students Create Ornaments for Community Tree Trim

Orland School District 135 participated in the Village of Orland Park’s 2015 Community Tree Trim. In Art class, students in grades first through eighth, created ornaments inspired by artists. Students were motivated by artists such as: Jackson Pollock, Peter Max, Yulia Brodskaya, and Dale Chihuly. Art Educator, Sharon Grasman commented, “The Community Tree Trim is a wonderful way to expose our students and the community to some fine artists. The students love that their ornaments can be displayed for all the residents to see!” Not only are ornaments hanging on the tree, but viewers can also learn more about various artists by scanning QR codes and reading short biographies.

On Sunday, December 13, families, educators, and community members came together to hang beautiful handmade ornaments on reserved trees by the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink at Centennial Park. Superintendent, Dr. Janet Stutz said, “Through partnering with our Village, our students have the opportunity to not only share their artistic talent, but to demonstrate a sense of connection and belonging in the Orland community.  This experience will instill a lasting memory.”

Ornaments will be on display until December 31, 2015.
